Prohibition in Eastern Iowa
Prohibition in Eastern Iowa. On Tuesday, September 23rd at 6 p.m., author Linda McCann will visit the library and present a program highlighting the ole days of speakeasies, gangsters and bootleggers from the roaring 20s. We tend to think of the effects of Prohibition distantly, but Linda McCann's book looks at how Prohibition affected Eastern Iowa. At this presentation, she'll discuss farmers who made money by turning their corn into alcohol, bootleggers who brought in liquor from Chicago, visits from Al Capone, and gun battles on a two-lane highways...and Eastern Iowa saw it all.Prohibition in Eastern IowaDate and Time
